On Monday 25 May 2009, the Joint Standing Committee on Migration tabled its report entitled Immigration detention in Australia: Community-based alternatives to detention. This is the second report of a series of three against the inquiry’s terms of reference. The inquiry is ongoing and a subsequent report will be tabled in 2009. The report includes IDC testimony on the benefits of alternatives to the detention of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.
