Become a member of the IDC

Non-governmental organisations, civil society groups, universities, academics, research centres and individuals may become Associate Members of the International Detention Coalition, based on the following criteria:

  • Agree with the mission, principles and values of the network, as defined in the document, IDC Position on the Detention of Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Migrants (see link below)
  • Agree to respect the diverse views and opinions within the membership and to look for respectful ways of communicating concerns and resolving disagreements and conflicts;
  • Are an organisation or individual who are involved in the following:
    1. Providing services to immigrants in detention, their families or former detainees
    2. Advocating, providing public education or providing other information on immigration detention issues; or
    3. Concerned with immigration detention issues and supportive of systemic change.

  • Membership is not extended to political parties, media or to governmental/inter-governmental individuals or institutions.
  • Associate Members are not permitted to carry out activities or issue statements in the name of the IDC. Only IDC Regional Representatives, the Advisory and Governance Committees and the Secretariat may represent the IDC publicly.

In order to apply, please complete an IDC member application form and return it to info@idcoalition.org

Country and regional associate members are approved by the  Regional Representative and Director, and international organisation associate members by the Director and at least one governance committee member, based on the above criteria. Currently, there are no fees for membership.
