IDC Annual Report 2024-25

IDC’s 2024-25 annual report details our activities during the reporting year.

This year, hostility towards migrants and refugees intensified across many parts of the world. As populism has grown, migration has increasingly been politicised and migrants scapegoated for political gain, driving policies rooted in punishment rather than evidence. Immigration detention remains one of the clearest expressions of this trend, alongside expanding deportation measures, externalisation policies and new legislative proposals that threaten to widen the use of detention further.

These developments, combined with attacks on multilateralism and severe cuts to humanitarian and human rights funding, have created an extraordinarily difficult context. They also underline the urgent need for solidarity and sustained action to advance humane, rights-based migration governance and community-based alternatives to detention.

Amid these challenges, progress has remained possible. Across regions, IDC and our partners have continued to drive reforms, strengthen protection systems and build momentum for alternatives to detention, showing that even in a hostile environment, practical and rights-based solutions can still take hold.
