A joint delegation from the Rapporteurship on the Rights of Migrants and on the Rights of the Child of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) carried out a visit to the southern border of the United States of America from September 29 to October 2, 2014.

The objective of the visit was to monitor the human rights situation of unaccompanied children and families from Mexico and the Northern Triangle of Central America (Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador) who have crossed the southern border of the United States with respect to their apprehension, immigration detention over long periods of time, immigration proceedings, and deportations and removals.

The visit covers ground in the Rio Grande Valley area, as well as activities in McAllen, Harlingen, Karnes City, and San Antonio, Texas, with the Commission visiting immigration detention centers and other facilities where children and families are detained, as well as migrant shelters operated by civil society organizations.

Las relatorías de los derechos de los migrantes y de los derechos de la niñez hicieron una visita a la frontera de Estados Unidos del 29 de septiembre al 2 de octubre, con el fin de monitorear la situacion de los derechos de los niños, niñas y adolescentes no acompañados y familias de Mexico y el Triangulo Norte, con respeto a las detenciones y deportaciones.
