JEM STEVENS joined the IDC as the Europe Regional Coordinator in 2013. Prior to that, she worked in the field of human rights research and practice for years, with a focus on human rights in detention.

Jem previously worked for the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) both as a research consultant, and as Asia Pacific Programme Officer.

In the latter role, Jem worked with governments and civil society organisations all over the Asia Pacific, providing advice and support on measures to prevent torture and other ill-treatment. Jem was also Human Rights Officer with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Nepal, where she was involved in monitoring places of detention and investigating conflict-related human rights violations, including torture and disappearances.

Jem has a Bachelor’s degree in law and French law, and a Master’s degree in human rights and democratisation. Jem is based in Berlin, Germany.
