The International Detention Coalition (IDC) expresses deep concern at the proposed amendments to New Zealand’s Immigration Act 2009. We join the Refugee Council & Human Rights Commission of New Zealand and the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network and many other groups, in voicing our concern about the Immigration Amendment Bill 16-1.

This amendment has been designed to deter a potential mass arrival of illegal migrants to New Zealand and includes a provision for mandatory detention under group warrants.
