New Zealand is set to take on the worst of Australia’s failed immigration detention policy & NGOS from across the region are deeply concerned about the proposed legislation.
The International Detention Coalition (IDC) expresses deep concern at the proposed amendments to New Zealand’s Immigration Act 2009. We join the Refugee Council & Human Rights Commission of New Zealand and the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network and many other groups, in voicing our concern about the Immigration Amendment Bill 16-1.
This amendment has been designed to deter a potential mass arrival of illegal migrants to New Zealand and includes a provision for mandatory detention under group warrants.
