From Back Door to Front Door: Forced migration routes through Macedonia to Croatia

On 1st July 2013, Croatia will join the European Union as its 28th member state. As such, it will become a new entry point into the EU for refugees, asylum seekers and other irregular migrants.

Its asylum and migration system, and that of its neighbouring countries such as Macedonia, will thus become critically important for how the EU’s newly adopted common asylum system can function in the face of this latest expansion of the EU borders.
