A Model for Unaccompanied Migrant Children: Mexico

This publication is a local application of the Child-Sensitive Community Assessment and Placement (CCAP) Model. It cumulates two years of work from the IDC members and partners based in Mexico. It details a model for the Reception and Accommodation of Unaccompanied Children and Adolescents in the community environment in Mexico.

It ensures that the use of detention is avoided for children and adolescent migrants, asylum seekers and refugees who travel without their parents or guardians. The Model analyses the scope of authorities and provides decision-making elements to build and implement mechanisms that enable effective care and case management for unaccompanied children, preserving at all times the best interests of the child and their right to liberty.
