Report on the 2025 annual in-person convening of the SADC Alternatives to Detention Network

This report summarises the 2025 annual in-person convening of the SADC Alternatives to Detention Network, held in Banjul, The Gambia, alongside the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights. It outlines discussions on rising migration detention, criminalisation and xenophobia in Southern Africa, and how the Network is working to promote rights-based, community-based alternatives, as well as the Network’s agreed priorities and action points for 2026.
