The IDC MENA regional workshop was held this month over two days in Amman, co-hosted by new IDC member ARDD-Legal Aid.

Participants included 42 IDC members, NGOs, UNHCR and IOM from nine countries in the region: Mauritania, Morocco, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen and Jordan.

Together particpants mapped issues of immigration detention across the region, with support from the Regional Mixed Migration Secretariat and the Global Detention Project to contextualise the examples of work to address detention in the region and globally, and also explored possibilities for alternatives to detention.

Participants shared valuable knowledge and experiences and agreed to continue to collaborate as a network to address immigration detention in the region, with particular interest in monitoring places of detention, access to legal aid, case management and shelter support for UAMs.
