SILVIA GÓMEZ joined the IDC as the Global Advocacy Coordinator in 2017. Prior to that, she was a practicing lawyer, and honed her interest in international migration and detention through her European Master’s thesis in Human Rights and Democratisation.
She worked in Geneva within the Advocacy team of the OMCT, and also as a Human Rights Fellow at the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in Geneva. Additionally, Silvia worked with UNHCR as a Protection Officer in Malta to monitor detention centres and promote alternatives to immigration detention.
Silvia served as a legal advisor on various International and European Union projects for the Spanish National Research Council. She is also an active volunteer for porCausa, a Spanish think tank, where she researches global migration issues. Silvia is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
