AMERA MARKOUS joined IDC as MENA Regional Coordinator in 2021. Prior to that, she worked with the Mixed Migration Centre (MMC) North Africa as a Team Leader responsible for coordinating data collection activities, by supervising a team of enumerators across the country and providing training and guidance to collect quantitative and qualitative data on various themes on the experiences, conditions and migration journeys of people on the move, using mixed methods and tools. Prior to that, Amera has worked in protection and emergency programmes with the International Medical Corps (IMC) and UNHCR in Libya. She has a masters degree in humanitarian action in Geneva, and during her studies, she carried out research on the negative impact that humanitarian organizations have on migrants and refugees in mixed migratory flows. Furthermore she led the launch of a small media campaign (Who is in Libya) to shed light on migrants' and refugees' struggles and break existing stereotypes on migration. More recently during her work with MMC, she researched the impact of COVID-19 on EU Mediterranean Migration Policies, with a focus on Libya.
