NGO resources for CAP

Analyse, Network, Prioritise, Advocate and Connect

Dear civil society partners,

We have made an NGO Advocacy Guide to assist you in using the handbook on alternatives. The guide explores five major activities we can undertake to prevent unnecessary detention and to ensure community-based alternatives for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants: Analyse, Network, Prioritise, Advocate and Connect. The guide for NGOs also shows successful examples of advocating alternatives around the world, such as open community housing for families in Belgium or strategic litigation in Hong Kong which led to policy changes. Even though alternatives can be used for all populations, it is often necessary to start by focusing on one vulnerable group to pilots community based alternatives. For that reason the IDC is currently preparing on an international campaign on children in detention. The guide explores  key messages, targets and tactics for campaigning this issue. Use the guide to engage with your government. You will find more resources below as well as ways to connect to the work on alternatives.
