This year in July 2011, we will be hosting the first IDC regional workshop in Africa on immigration detention and alternatives to detention. The 3 day workshop will be held in Johannesburg, and will be attended by participants from civil society organizations working on issues of detention across Southern and Eastern Africa.

In 2011 the IDC is looking to strengthen its work with members throughout Africa, and to reach out to new members, in an effort to better understand and take action on immigration detention in the African context.  To date the IDC has members in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa and Zimbabwe, with links organizations in Botswana, Namibia, Malawi and Mozambique.  IDC is interested to hear from anyone working on, or holding information about, immigration detention in Africa.

If you would like further information about the workshop, or have information to contribute to the mapping of immigration detention in the region, please contact Lucy Bowring ([email protected]).
