IDC is building links in Africa between governments, civil society, UN agencies and others to drive change.

We have successfully strengthened local capacity and expertise by training and supporting community groups, civil society organisations and policymakers. We are also working to bring ground-breaking African solutions to life.

IDC and Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) convene the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Network on Alternatives to Detention. The network unites NGOs, human rights defenders and people with lived experience of immigration detention.

With political goodwill to support alternatives to detention, Africa is poised to become a leading voice in the movement to end immigration detention and champion human rights – so watch this space!
