Long term IDC members Refugee Consortium of Kenya are this year continuing their work on immigration detention.  Amongst a number of other activiteis, this year one key focus is on the link between human trafficking and immigration detention with the aim to protect migrants and reduce risk of detention across the East African region.
RCK and other advocates are concerned about the treatment of victims of trafficking as criminals, who are then charged for Immigration offenses, detained and deported without the necessary assistance as stipulated in the law.  Training on human trafficking will be conducted with government, police, NGOs and the judiciary.
Outreach to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers will also focus on the risks of human trafficking and smuggling.
