Newly failed asylum seekers can face just a one in 10 chance of been removed from the UK, the Government’s official auditors have warned.

There is also no system in place to track those granted asylum, even though their cases are supposed to be reviewed after five years. In a scathing attack on the management of the asylum system, the Home Office was warned it is going to miss its promise of clearing a backlog of 450,000 historic asylum cases by 2011.
