Immigration detention concerns continue to be raised throughout Europe at the start of 2013 with Greece remaining a country of focus in regards to its wrongful detention practices as highlighted by many regional and international civil society groups and intra-governmental bodies.

Both Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have in the last month published reports about the situation in Greece and the Council of Europe’s Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons have also issued a report highlighting the concerns across the Eastern Mediterranean.
In other news, there are concerns about the state of immigration detention in Cyprus, in particular the treatment of detainees and elsewhere in Europe, detainees have been protesting about their conditions.
