IDC is a proud partner and contributor to this World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Office for Europe report on health and health challenges of refugees and migrants in immigration detention, as well as alternatives to detention (ATD). The findings show that immigration detention can have a severe impact on people’s physical and mental health.
This country implementation guide outlines current evidence, knowledge and best practices, highlights key principles and international commitments, and provides practical considerations for addressing health challenges in immigration detention, as well as promotes engagement-based ATD.
IDC’s Executive Director Carolina Gottardo also co-authored commentary on this report for the Lancet Journal: Improving Health in Immigration Detention & Promoting ATD.
