The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants, Mr. François Crépeau, will undertake a country visit to Angola from 2-10 May 2016.  The visit will focus on assessing the human rights situation of migrants in Angola and how its membership in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) impacts on its migration policies.

The Special Rapporteur conducts country visits (also called fact-finding missions) upon the invitation of the Government, in order to examine the state of protection of the human rights of migrants in the given country. The Special Rapporteur submits a report of the visit to the Human Rights Council, presenting his findings, conclusions and recommendations.

In preparation for the visit, groups are encouraged to share any information regarding:

  • overview of the situation of migrants in Angola
  • key issues for the Special Rapporteur to address with the Government
  • national NGOs that the Special Rapporteur should consider meeting (including contact details: name, address, email)
