Regional: AllAfrica reiterates UN Expert’s statement that all Member States must adopt new alternatives to the detention of children which ensure human rights and protect children from torture and other ill-treatment.

Rwanda: New research suggests that alternatives for camp-based refugees in Rwanda should consider transnational, regional mobility models.

Rwanda discusses deal with  Israel, in which the East African nation would take in asylum seekers and refugees currently held in detention, in exchange for favourable contracts. The deal has come under scrutiny from human rights groups, who have expressed concern over the human rights record of Rwanda and questioned whether the refugees’ status would be honoured once they arrived.

Kenya: Parliamentary Human Rights Association (KEPHRA) calls for Refugees Bill 2015 to be implemented. KEPHRA argues for the integration of refugees into the communities outside of camps, enabled through the provision of identity cards and other necessary documents.
