GENEVA (2 September 2014) – The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention – the UN body tasked with investigating and reporting on cases of deprivation of liberty, including cases of immigration detention – held consultations with civil society stakeholders from 1-2 September in Geneva, Switzerland in relation to the preparation of the first Draft Basic Principles and Guidelines on Remedies and Procedures on the Right of Anyone Deprived of His or Her Liberty by Arrest or Detention to Bring Proceedings Before Court (“Draft Basic Principles“).

These Draft Basic Principles will form an important tool for IDC Members seeking further support for ending the arbitrary and unlawful detention of migrants around the world.
