The People’s Global Action on Migration, Development, and Human Rights is an independent civil society event occurring right before the Global Forum on Migration and Development Summit. The PGA brings together migrant associations, migrant rights organizations, trade unions, faith groups, academia and other civil societies from around the world to share information, dialogue, strengthen analyses and develop joint actions and campaigns on current and emerging issues related to migration.
The focus of this year’s PGA will be on the urgent need for rights-based global migration governance, in relation to six thematic tracks:
- Climate change and migration
- Gender and migration
- Xenophobia and racism
- Labor migration and recruitment reform
- Mixed migration
- Borders and detention

The Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) is an initiative of United Nations Member States with the assistance of the Special Representative of the Secretary General on international migration and development, and chaired each year by a different state. The aim of the conference is to address the migration and development interconnections in practical and action-oriented ways. It is an informal, non-binding, voluntary and government-led process that marks the culmination of more than a decade of international dialogue on the growing importance of the linkages between migration and development.
