The IDC earlier this month welcomed the CRC’s publication of its report and recommendations from the Day of General Discussion which took place in September 2012.

Within the report were some 33 recommendations on the specifics of applying the Convention in the context of international migration and in particular the IDC was extremely pleased to see Recommendation 78, which calls for States

to expeditiously and completely cease the detention of children on the basis of their immigration status”.

This concise and timely recommendation, linked to the practical examples of how States can implement this, in section 35 and 36, will, we hope lead to an increase in States ending the immigration detention of children.
