Side Event on the Promotion of the UN Basic Principles and Guidelines on Remedies and Procedures on the Right of Anyone Deprived of His or Her Liberty by Arrest or Detention to Bring Proceedings before Court

GENEVA – Pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 20/16, dated 6 July 2012, the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention is submitting to the Council at its 30th session the UN Basic Principles and Guidelines on Remedies and Procedures on the Right of Anyone Deprived of His or Her Liberty by Arrest or Detention to Bring Proceedings before Court (UN Basic Principles and Guidelines). In this context, the Chair Rapporteur of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention would like to invite interested civil society organizations to a side event to the 30th Human Rights Council on the promotion of the UN Basic Principles and Guidelines.

The side event is going to be held on 15 September 2015, between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., in conference room XXIV, at the Palais des Nations, Geneva. Our distinguished panellists include:

  • Mr. Mads Andenas, former Chair-Rapporteur of the WGAD and Rapporteur for the Basic Principles and Guidelines;
  • Ms. Shaheen Ali, former Vice-Chair-Rapporteur of the WGAD;
  • Mr. Alex Conte, Senior Legal Adviser, International Commission of Jurists;
  • Mr. Ben Lewis, Advocacy Coordinator, International Detention Coalition.
